Apple has a tendency to make heads turn towards through the grandeur it portrays at keynote events. The latest one being one of the most anticipated ones owing to the launch of anniversary edition iPhone X along with other major announcements. Hosted at the newly-raised Steve Jobs Theater, the media event invited world media through the tagline- ‘Let’s meet at our place’. The event had amassed the interests of tech geeks from around the globe and many rumors were calmed down as the event progressed.
The major showstopper of the event was the latest iPhone X with bezel-less design, OLED screen and 3D face recognition technology. Along with the announcement regarding iPhone X, Apple also announced two other phones namely iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. The event also saw announcement of the latest Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple TV 4K. The event also gave a glimpse of Apple’s latest innovation- Airpower charging mats and announced the release dates of iOS 11 and watchOS 4. The Faster, Better & Beautiful iPhone X – Sans Bezel
The most anticipated gadget of the year – the anniversary edition iPhone was finally announced by Tim Cook. Pronounced as the future of smart phones, the flagship iPhone X boasted of an all-new beautiful design with a Super Retina Display and edge-to-edge, bezel-less panel. The 5.8-inch OLED panel supports a resolution of 2436x1125 along with HDR including Dolby vision & HDR 10.
The iPhone X showcased a new 3D scanning system in the form of Face ID that enables phone unlock using facial recognition. Coming without a standard home button, the phone is powered by an advanced A11 bionic processor and supports wireless charging through Airpower charging mats. With dual 12-megapixel cameras along with dual optical image stabilization and improved camera at the front, the phone is a delight for photography lovers. Apple also vouched for longer battery life with claims being that the latest one will last two hours longer than the previous iPhone 7. Coming in two subtle colors and two storage configurations – 64 GB & 256 GB, the iPhone X is expected to be put on pre orders on October 27th.
Upgraded iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus with Glass Backs
The event also saw an announcement regarding two other phones – iPhone 8 and 8 plus that are just being called a minor upgrade from existing iPhone 7. With new glass back to support wireless charging, powerful A11 bionic processor- the same as iPhone X, True Tone Display and improved camera, the devices can be termed as a normal upgrade from the existing iPhone 7. With options of 64 GB & 256 GB models, iPhone 8 & 8 Plus is expected to start shipping as early as September 22nd.
The Latest Apple Watch Series 3- with LTE Connectivity
Coming as a delight for tech geeks, Apple Watch Series 3 announced at the event will now support LTE connectivity for seamless integration and independent connectivity without need of a phone. According to official announcement, the latest Apple Watch will carry the same number as the iPhone and will be able to perform all functions like calls, messages, music streaming, etc. without needing to connect the iPhone. With minor face uplift through the red dot on digital crown, the device appears slightly bulkier than the previous Apple Watch Series 2. Powered by the latest W2 chip, Apple Watch Series 3 will offer better performance along with improved battery life, going as long as up to 18 hours on a single charge.
The Better-equipped Latest Apple TV 4K
The latest Apple TV 4K is just the old Apple TV but with support for 4K videos. This will allow the device to offer superior resolution output along with support for HDR videos. Being compatible with HDR10 & Dolby Vision, the Apple TV 4K will enable users to play back high definition 4K HDR content right through the app. The iTunes Store will complement the Apple TV 4K package and offer 4K and HDR movies and TV shows at the same old price of HD content. Also, Apple announced a free upgrade to 4K for the titles already owned by a user. The Apple TV 4K comes in two models- cellular & non-cellular and is expected to start shipping by September 22nd.
Anticipated Announcement regarding iOS 11, macOS High Sierra & watchOS Release Dates
The much-anticipated announcement regarding the latest software upgrades for iPhones, Mac, Apple Watch was made at the event. iOS 11 will be released for all compatible models on September 19 and offered out-of-the-box on the new iPhone X, iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. The company announced that iOS upgrade will be available for all the models including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus. iPads will also receive the iOS update. The High Sierra macOS update will release one week after the iOS update on September 25th. With new features including external GPU & VR support, high efficiency video codec support and new apple file system, MacOS update will improve the experience on Mac devices. Also, the event announced an update for Apple Watch OS that will release on September 19th for all the models.
All in all, the keynote event witnessed many firsts with the biggest one being showcasing of bezel-less design in iPhone X. Also, the event was iconic in its own way as it was hosted at the theater that was made in the memory of the Apple’s Founder- Steve Jobs.
